The answer is no. There is a lot more behind these organizations than what is presented on the surface level. We can freely access documents, videos, testimonies, and other information about this topic via the internet.

I am not the first nor will I be the last ex-member that God uses. At the end of the day, the #1 source for all Christians to use as a life guide is the Holy Bible. If the choices we make contradicts that, then "we as Christians" have some work to do and choices to make.

Christian: a person who believes in Jesus Christ and accepts His teachings as truth.

Questions to ask yourself if you are interested or currently a part of these organizations:

#1: Why do you want to join/Why did you join?

Motives are important to God (check out 1 Samuel 16:7). We can express with our mouth a variety of reasons yet He sees our heart. We can provide a surface level response yet He knows us at our very core.

Ask Him to show you what's in your heart; the motive behind your desire to join. Be patient and open enough to hear His response.

#2: Do you know the origin of these organizations?

Most people research starts at the year the organization was founded. That's a surface level search ( I know, because I did the same thing too!). Let's dig deeper. Sororities and fraternities in America are modeled after Freemasonry.

What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is the oldest, largest and most widely recognized fraternal organization in the world. This is where the model of rituals, oaths, songs, chants, and other secret society activities stem from. It is rooted in occultism, a pluralistic approach to religions, and the list goes on. This in itself contradicts with the Word of God (false teachings). Please research more on this topic at your own leisure.

Check out these scriptures - Exodus 20:3, 2 Timothy 4:3-4, 1 John 4:1-6, 1 Timothy 4: 6-7

#3: Are you willing to compromise in any way, your beliefs in order to be a part of one?

Belittling, slave like request, hazing, sexual acts, and substance abuse are not of God. They are many people who have experienced some of these things in order to be a part of these organizations. Now, this may not be everyone's testimony but far too many people can relate. This includes predominately white and black secret societies and organizations (those on college campuses and beyond). These are just a few examples.

Food for Thought

What did you have to do to become a christian?

What did you submit yourself to in order to be a part of the organization?

Was God pleased with your choices?

#4: Does it align or contradict with the Word of God?

Most of these secret societies have doctrines or beliefs they use as guiding principles. If you are a part of one, have you ever compared that doctrine with the word of God?

Words are powerful. The Bible talks about life and death being in the power of our tongue. Since words are powerful, can you imagine the life or death we agree to when we recite rituals, oaths, pledges, chants, songs, etc?

Take the time to listen to the words that come out of your mouth.

One thing that convicted me was a sorority song that spoke about giving all my love to the sorority. Now, think about it. How can I give all my love to the sorority if God says in His word to love Him with all my heart, soul, and mind (-Matthew 22:37)?

If you are not a part of one, the internet is a helpful tool to use at your leisure.

#5: Do you know what/who you are inviting into your life?

The term unequally yoked talks about the binding or connecting of souls that are unhealthy for each other. Most believers think of this term for marriages but it goes beyond that. Our soul is our mind, will, and emotions. When you invite paganistic influences (whether known or unknown) into your life, it will cause problems.

What do I mean? Let's take a deeper look. Most of these organizations profess christian principles. The foundation for christian principles is Christ. Now, if Christ is the center of the organization, then why is there:

- a level of secrecy. Christianity is inclusive while most of these organizations are exclusive. How is that beneficial to the body of Christ as a whole? What's being done in secret that cannot be done in open?

-spiritual pluralism. This in itself contradicts with christian principles. Since Christ is the only way, truth, and life, any other suggestion/way is a lie. Spiritual pluralism is open to multiple religions which leads to multiple beliefs that contradict the very Word of God (i.e. "a Supreme Being" can mean one thing to you but something else to someone else). Not everyone who uses the term God believes in Jesus Christ as the only way. The organization I was a part of is a plural religious organization (didn't find this out until I did some research!) This then leads to unequally yoked connections with ideas, people, teachings, etc.

What are you wearing?

There are symbols that contradict with the Word of God. Take a look at the shields and emblems of most of these organizations. Which "god" is represented and attributed to in words, actions, and in doctrines?

Food for Thought:

Where does wisdom come from and which wisdom does your organization mention/attest to?

#6: Who gets the glory out the events, cat calls, songs, steps, chants, etc.?

This goes back to motive and the words we say. This can also be applied to all areas of life. Did you know, just because you have good intentions doesn't mean they are God intentions? Even if we say in word that the things we do are for His glory, He sees our heart and knows the truth behind it all.

Check out: Colossians 3:23, Matthew 6:24

#7: If God told you to give it up, would you?

That's between you and God.

Check out: 1 Samuel 15:22, 1 John 2:15, Luke 14:25-33

The purpose of this post is not to condemn but to enlighten, not to point the finger, but to encourage. Do your own research. Check in with God for yourself. At the end, His truth will be revealed to us all.
